The Russian Wines Competition© is sponsored by CHÂTEAU DE TALUS.
CHÂTEAU DE TALUS enterprise (limited liability company) was set up in 2005 and is located in the resort town of Gelendzhik which due to its mild, warm climate having the features of a subtropical dry climate of the Mediterranean type is one of the best suited places for growing grapes.
The enterprise has cultivated over 100 ha of land where wine grape varieties such as Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Syrah and one indigenous Russian variety Krasnostop grow. They are all black grape varieties. There are also white grape varieties: Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, Semillon, Muscat Blanc à Petits Grains.
All the planting stock but for Krasnostop was bought from the French plant nursery Jean Guy&Bruno ARRIVE which for three generations has been producing grape seedlings for the most prestigious vineyards in the world. All the clone-rootstock combination was selected on the basis of French experts’ experience with the purpose of getting high quality raw material from every clone on a particular plot of land.
The growing of the grapes in the enterprise is based on European technologies with the use of advanced agrotechnical systems and the latest approaches in the sphere. All the year round CHÂTEAU DE TALUS employees take great care of vineyards carrying out agrotechnical measures in accordance with seasonal requirements.
The total area of the vineyard is divided into two plots of different terroirs each of which has its own unique features making it possible to get truly high quality grapes rightly considered by consumers all over Russia to be one of the best. All the vineyards are located on southern slopes. On one of the plots the geography of location makes it possible to grow grapes in close proximity to the sea; the soil cover is middle-stony, with an average thickness of the humus-accumulated horizon. The second plot is located in the foothills of the Markotkh Range and has strongly stony, poorer soils. All these specific features will enable vine growers to get their own wines unique in the style of their own.
For the time being, the design has been completed and the construction of a modern winery for the production of premium wines has begun. The positive image of the enterprise has been created thanks to the well-coordinated and painstaking work of the qualified team of CHÂTEAU DE TALUS.
