North Caucasian Federal Scientific Centre of Horticulture, Viticulture, Winemaking supports Russian Wines Competition©.
We keep presenting those who support the first international wine competition, the Russian Wines Competition©.
The competition of Russian wines, the Russian Wines Competition©, is supported by the North Caucasian Federal Scientific Centre of Horticulture, Viticulture, Winemaking (NCFSCHVW), a large research and plant breeding technology centre for horticulture, viticulture and winemaking in the southern and North-Caucasian federal districts.
The scientific centre was founded on June 6, 1931 by the order of Sadvintrest in the village of Slavyanskaya on the basis of the Sad-Gigant state farm and at that time it was called the "North Caucasian Zone Experimental Station". In 1958, the experimental station was reorganized into the North Caucasian Region Research Institute of Horticulture and Viticulture (NCRRIH&V) and in 2017 into the North-Caucasian Federal Scientific Centre of Horticulture, Viticulture, Winemaking (NCFSCHVW).
The scientific centre has a developed scientific and technological potential as well as industrial facilities: 170 people work at the institute, including 122 researchers of which 17 are doctors habilitatus and 62 are holders of a doctoral degree; modern laboratory equipment has been installed and an extensive North-Caucasian scientific and methodological network has been created; pilot production facilities and small innovative enterprises operate successfully.
The organization of the selection process and the formation of a genetic pool of fruit and berry crops along with grapes, the improvement of soil fertility reproduction methods in garden and grape agrocoenoses, as well as the study of physiological and biochemical methods of managing adaptive and productive processes of perennial crops are just a few areas of research of the scientific centre.
The scientific centre engages in educational activities: post-graduate training, higher scientific qualification staff training and further training. From 1962 to 2011, 122 post graduates got their doctoral degrees, 26 of the institute staff members defended their theses. The scientific centre also releases an electronic thematic periodical magazine, "Fruit growing and viticulture of the South of Russia".
The scientists of the centre contribute to the development of industrial fruit growing and viticulture in the south of Russia, carrying out research, planning and surveying, appraisal, expert and structural work which ensures the increase in the production potential of perennial plantations and improves the quality of products. The relevance of the institute’s scientific research and development is confirmed by more than 80 patents and certificates of authorship, over 10,000 scientific publications, as well as 103 scientific papers and digests of scholarly articles.
Over years, scientists have created more than 160 varieties of fruit and berry crops and 34 varieties of grapes, which are included in the State Registry of Selection Achievements.
