The North Caucasian Federal Scientific Centre of Horticulture, Viticulture and Winemaking is supporting the Russian Wines Competition 2020
The Russian Wines Competition 2020 is supported by the federal state budgetary scientific institution “North Caucasian Federal Scientific Centre of Horticulture, Viticulture and Winemaking”, a large scientific, methodological and selection-technological centre for gardening, viticulture and winemaking in the South and North Caucasus Federal Districts of Russia.
The Scientific Centre was founded on 6 June 1931 by the order of “Sadvintrest” in the village of Slavyanskaya on the basis of the “Sad-Gigant” state farm and was called the "North Caucasian Zonal Experimental Station" at the time. In 1958, the experimental station was reorganised into the North Caucasian Zonal Research Institute of Horticulture and Viticulture, and in 2017, into the North Caucasus Federal Scientific Centre of Gardening, Viticulture and Winemaking.
Research areas at the Scientific Centre include: organising the selection process and assembling a genetic collection of fruit and berry crops and grapes; improving methods for reproducing soil fertility in orchard and grape agrocenoses; and studying physiological and biochemical methods for managing the adaptation and production processes of perennial crops.
The Scientific Centre has developed scientific and technical potential; moreover, it has created a powerful advanced production base, modern laboratories and an extensive scientific and methodological network for the North Caucasus. The Scientific Centre is accredited as a certification body and testing laboratory for confirming the conformity of quality and safety of fruits, berries, grapes and their processed products.
The Scientific Centre employs 255 people, including 130 researchers, of which there are 18 doctors of science, 62 candidates of science, 1 member of the Russian Academy of Sciences, 12 researchers with the academic title professor and 17 with the academic title of assistant professor.
The Scientific Centre has boasted a post-graduate school since 1962, which has educated more than 150 people, with 100 defending their dissertations and becoming candidates of science. Since 2000, the scientific institution has had a doctoral dissertation council, which has seen 19 doctoral and 103 master's theses defended.
Its achievements over the years, which are listed in the State Register of Selection Achievements, include the creation of 150 varieties of fruit crops and 101 grape varieties.
The Scientific Centre holds more than 100 supported patents and copyright certificates. Moreover, it has published more than 10,000 scientific papers, including 303 monographs, 452 guidelines, agricultural guidelines and techniques.
The Scientific Centre founded the thematic network electronic scientific journal “Fruit growing and viticulture in the South of Russia”, which is included in the list of the Higher Attestation Commission, as well as the periodical print publication “Scientific works of NCFSCHVW”. The Centre has published 120 issues of its scientific works as well as collections of scientific articles.
The Centre is currently headed by the acting director, candidate of biological sciences Suprun Ivan Ivanovich.
Member of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Doctor of Economics, Professor Egorov Evgeny Alekseevich, Advisor to the Centre is responsible for the institution’s scientific management.
Suprun Ivan Ivanovich supported the Russian Wines Competition 2020 and emphasised that “the specialists of the Vinodelye scientific centre also have many years of experience in wine competitions at various levels and provide assistance to the wineries in the Russian Federation in the field of quality control and safety of wine products, thus confirming their competitiveness both domestically and globally. The organisation of events such as the Russian Wines Competition aimed at popularising high-quality domestic wines and disseminating expert information about Russian products throughout the world wine community is topical for our country”.
