The system of scoring wines at the Russian Wines Competition 2020©
Concept
During the Russian Wines Competition©, wines will be scored on a 100-point scale with the use of specialised VinAgora International Wine Competition Evaluation Software – Wine Compass (Hungary). This is approved for use in international wine competitions by the International Organisation of Vine and Wine (OIV).
The competition involves an assessment of 200 wines made by Russian producers by a qualified jury.
Wines will be assessed in four categories: “sparkling wines produced by the traditional method”, “sparkling wines produced by the tank method”, “still white wines” and “still red wines”.
The wine with the highest score in each tasting category will be awarded the title of "Best Wine by a Russian Producer in 2020 according to the Russian Wines Competition©".
Wines are evaluated by a committee of jurors headed by a panel chair. The panel chair's score carries the same weight as the other members' scores when calculating the final score, but he/she has some special rights, like initiating a medal vote, requesting a new bottle, etc. The final score of the wine is a trimmed average of all the judges' points, where the highest and lowest scores are excluded if they deviate from the raw average by more than 5 points.
Medals
Wines will be awarded medals according to the scores obtained. The medal ranges are as follows:
- Gold medal: 94-100 points
- Silver medal: 88-93 points
- Bronze medal: 83-87 points
A score of 80 points is the threshold for quality at the Russian Wines Competition©. Wines scoring 80 points and above will be recommended to consumers.
A maximum of 30% of the wines participating in the competition may receive medals. This applies to the 30% of wines with the highest scores, regardless of the category.
If 30% of wines are assessed within the range for gold medals, silver and bronze medals are not awarded. The same principle applies to silver and bronze medals. If 30% of the best wines are assessed within the range for gold and silver medals, bronze medals are not awarded.
All medallists will be sent certificates.
