Furmint
Furmint is a white grape variety used for still dry and sweet wine production. It is believed to originally come from the Tokaj region (Hungary). It is an early-budding and late-ripening grape variety with medium-sized bunches and thick-skinned berries of medium size. It is susceptible to downy mildew, powdery mildew (oidium) and botrytis bunch rot (grey mold), but is drought resistant. Furmint can produce monovarietal wines, although it is also used in blends with different grape varieties. Classic blending partners are Hárslevelű and Sárga Muskotály (Muscat Blanc à Petits Grains). Fermentation usually takes place in stainless steel tanks or oak barrels, maturation – in stainless steel tanks or oak barrels.
