Catarratto Bianco
Catarratto Bianco is a white grape variety used for still dry wine production. It is believed to originally come from Sicily (Italy). It is a mid- to late-ripening grape variety with relatively big bunches and medium-sized berries. It is susceptible to fungal diseases, such as powdery mildew (oidium) and botrytis bunch rot (grey mold). Catarratto Bianco can produce monovarietal wines but is also used in blends with different international and indigenous Italian grape varieties. Classic blending partners are Chardonnay, Inzolia and Grillo. Fermentation usually takes place in stainless steel tanks, or sometimes in oak barrels, maturation – in stainless steel tanks, or sometimes in oak barrels.
