Viura / Macabeo
Viura is a white grape variety most commonly used for still dry and sparkling wine production. It is believed to originally come from Catalunya (Spain). It is a grape variety that buds and ripens late, with big bunches and medium-sized, thick-skinned berries. It is susceptible to botrytis bunch rot (grey mold). Viura can produce monovarietal wines and is also used in blends with different grape varieties. Classic blending partners are Garnacha Blanca, Chardonnay, Parellada and Xarello. For still wines, fermentation usually takes place in stainless steel tanks or oak barrels, maturation – in stainless steel tanks or oak barrels. In sparkling wine production, the traditional method (second fermentation in a bottle) is used.
