Verdicchio Bianco / Trebbiano di Soave
Verdicchio Bianco is a white grape variety used for all categories of wines, from still to sparkling, dry to sweet, but most importantly it is used for still dry wine production. It is believed to originally come from Veneto (Italy). It is a mid- to late-ripening grape variety with relatively big, compact bunches and small to medium-sized berries. It is susceptible to downy and powdery (oidium) mildews and botrytis bunch rot (grey mold). Verdicchio Bianco produces monovarietal wines, but is also used in blends with different grape varieties. A classic blending partner is Garganega. Fermentation usually takes place in stainless steel tanks or oak barrels, maturation – in stainless steel tanks or oak barrels; for Recioto di Soave fermentation and maturation take place in oak barrels.
