Touriga Nacional
Touriga Nacional is a black grape variety used for dry and fortified red wine production. It is believed to originally come from the Dão region (Portugal). It is a mid- to late-ripening grape variety with small bunches and small, thick-skinned berries. It is susceptible to downy and powdery (oidium) mildews and botrytis bunch rot (grey mold). Touriga Nacional is rarely produced as a monovarietal wine, but is most often used in blends. Classic blending partners are Touriga Franca, Tinta Roriz, Tinto Cão and Tinta Barroca. Fermentation typically takes place in stainless steel tanks, maturation – in stainless steel tanks or oak barrels.
