Touriga Franca
Touriga Franca is a black grape variety used for dry and fortified red wine production. It is believed to originally come from the Douro region (Portugal). It is a mid- to late-ripening grape variety with medium-sized, compact bunches and berries. It is relatively resistant to fungal diseases, such as downy and powdery (oidium) mildews. Touriga Franca is rarely produced as a monovarietal wine, but is most often used in blends. Classic blending partners are Touriga Nacional, Tinta Roriz, Tinto Cão and Tinta Barroca. Fermentation typically takes place in stainless steel tanks, maturation – in stainless steel tanks or oak barrels.
