Tinta Barroca
Tinta Barroca is a black grape variety used for dry and fortified red wine production. It is believed to originally come from the Douro region (Portugal). It is an early-ripening grape variety with relatively big bunches and medium-sized, thin-skinned berries. It is susceptible to downy and powdery (oidium) mildews, and is also heat sensitive. Tinta Barroca is rarely produced as a monovarietal wine, but is most often used in blends. Classic blending partners are Touriga Nacional, Tinta Roriz, Tinto Cão and Touriga Franca. Fermentation typically takes place in stainless steel tanks, maturation – in stainless steel tanks or oak barrels.
