Tempranillo / Tinta Roriz / Tinto Fino
Tempranillo is a black grape variety used for red wine production. It is believed to originally come from the area of Rioja and Navarra (Spain). It is a grape variety that buds and ripens early, with medium-sized bunches and small, thick-skinned berries. It is susceptible to powdery mildew (oidium) and is wind sensitive. Tempranillo can be produced as a monovarietal wine, but is also used in blends with different grape varieties. Classic blending partners are Garnacha, Cabernet Sauvignon, Touriga Nacional and Touriga Franca. Fermentation typically takes place in stainless steel tanks, maturation – in stainless steel tanks or oak barrels.
