Petit Verdot
Petit Verdot is a black grape variety used for red wine production. It is believed to originally come from South West France. It is an early-budding and late-ripening grape variety with small bunches and small, thick-skinned berries. It is sensitive to drought; it has good resistance to powdery mildew (oidium) and botrytis bunch rot (grey mold). Petit Verdot is rarely produced as a monovarietal wine and is often used in blends with different grape varieties. Classic blending partners are Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Carmenère. Fermentation usually takes place in stainless steel tanks, concrete tanks or oak vats, maturation – in oak barrels.
