Nero d’Avola / Calabrese
Nero d’Avola is a black grape variety used for red wine production. It is believed to originally come from Sicily (Italy). It is a mid-ripening grape variety with medium-sized to big bunches and berries. It is susceptible to powdery mildew (oidium) and is heat tolerant. Nero d’Avola is produced as a monovarietal wine and is also used in blends with different indigenous Italian and international grape varieties. Classic blending partners are Frappato, Nerello Mascalese, Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon. Fermentation usually takes place in stainless steel tanks, maturation – in stainless steel tanks or oak barrels.
