Monastrell / Mourvèdre / Mataro
Monastrell is a black grape variety used for red wine production. It is believed to originally come from Valencia (Spain). It is a grape variety that buds and ripens late, with medium-sized bunches and thick-skinned berries of medium size. It is sensitive to drought, but it likes warm growing conditions. Monastrell can produce monovarietal wines, but is often used in blends with different grape varieties. Classic blending partners are Carignan, Cinsault, Grenache and Syrah. Fermentation typically takes place in stainless steel tanks, maturation – in oak barrels.
