Colombard
Colombard is a white grape variety used for still dry wine production. It is believed to originally come from Charente (France). It is a natural cross between Chenin Blanc and Gouais Blanc. It is a mid-ripening grape variety with medium-sized bunches and berries. It is susceptible to powdery mildew (oidium) and botrytis bunch rot (grey mold). Colombard can produce monovarietal wines but is often used in blends with different international grape varieties. Classic blending partners are Chardonnay, Ugni Blanc (Trebbiano Toscano) and Chenin Blanc. Fermentation usually takes place in stainless steel tanks, maturation – in stainless steel tanks.
