Cabernet Franc
Cabernet Franc is a black grape variety used for red and rosé wine production. It is an ancient grape variety of Bordeaux (France), but recent studies point to the Basque Country (Spain) as its origin. It is a mid-ripening grape variety with medium-sized bunches and small, thick-skinned berries. It has good disease resistance. It is also a parent of Cabernet Sauvignon. Cabernet Franc can produce monovarietal wines, but is typically used in blends with different grape varieties. Classic blending partners are Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. Fermentation usually takes place in stainless steel or concrete tanks, maturation – in oak barrels.
