Albariño / Alvarinho
Albariño is a white grape variety used for still dry wine production. It is believed to originally come from either north-eastern Portugal or Galicia (Spain). It is a mid-budding and early-ripening grape variety with small bunches and medium-sized berries. It is susceptible to downy and powdery (oidium) mildews. Albariño can typically produce monovarietal wines but is also used in blends with different grape varieties. Classic blending partners are Arinto, Loureiro and Trajadura. Fermentation usually takes place in stainless steel tanks, maturation – in stainless steel tanks.
