Garnacha Tinta / Grenache Noir / Cannonau
Garnacha Tinta is a black grape variety used for dry red, rosé and fortified red wine production. It is believed to originally come from Spain, most likely, from Aragon. It is an early-budding and late-ripening grape variety with small- to medium-sized bunches and small berries. It has good drought resistance, although it is susceptible to downy mildew and botrytis bunch rot (grey mold). Garnacha Tinta produces monovarietal wines but is also used in blends with different grape varieties. Classic blending partners are Syrah, Mourvèdre, Carignan, Cinsault and Tempranillo. Fermentation usually takes place in stainless steel tanks or oak vats, maturation – in stainless steel tanks, oak vats or oak barrels.
