Austrian Wine Academy supports the Russian Wines Competition 2020
The Russian Wines Competition 2020 is supported by the Austrian Wine Academy (Weinakademie Österreich), the largest wine education centre in mainland Europe.
The Austrian Wine Academy was established in 1991 as a new, efficient training centre for private wine lovers and professionals alike. As a non-profit institution, the Academy endorses the following philosophy: the more a country develops its wine knowledge and culture, the more this particular nation is likely to respect and consume high quality wines.
The Austrian Wine Academy is located in Rust, in the romantic setting of the old Seehof. There is also a second office in the town of Krems in Lower Austria. Overall management responsibility is in the hands of Dr Josef Schuller MW, Austria's first Master of Wine (MW).
More than 15,000 people participate in over 800 Wine Academy seminars each year. The Austrian Wine Academy is also – under the auspices of the AWMB (Austrian Wine Marketing Board) – a participant in the pan-European informational programme “Wine in Moderation”, which strives to promote responsible interaction with wine.
The Austrian Wine Academy offers a range of wine courses:
- Advanced course – Wines and Spirits - International
- WSET Diploma in Wines and Spirits – Central Europe
- WSET Diploma in Wines and Spirits – International
- WSET Diploma in Wines and Spirits - Rheingau / Burgenland / Alto Adige / Zurich
WSET Diploma graduates may be awarded the prestigious title of “Weinakademiker” upon completion of a thesis and a viva voce exam. Successful students are then asked to sign a code of conduct and join the international alumni association “Club der Weinakademier”, which boasts more than 850 graduates from 41 different countries.

I was lucky enough to study at the Austrian Wine Academy, where I began my WSET Diploma International Programme in 2016. It is no exaggeration to say that studying at the academy was very difficult yet also an incredibly interesting and rewarding period of my life. During my studies, I gained extensive knowledge about the wine industry and met wine professionals from all around the world. I am extremely proud to bear the title “Weinakademiker”.
“One of the best things about Weinakademie is the pool of our international students and graduates. I am proud to see how some of our Weinakademikers are putting their stamp on the wine world. In particular of graduates such as Leonid Fadeev who has created and developed Russian Wines Competition. We are happy to see its very professional and high quality development and are happy to support it.” - Dr Josef Schuller MW, Director of the Austrian Wine Academy.
My personal thanks to Dr Josef Schuller MW for this privilege of being supported by Weinakademie Österreich for the second time in a row.
