Anna Baranova

A historian and manager by education, in 2005 Anna realized that “the truth is in wine“ and plunged headlong into the wine business. She started her career as a cavist at a wine merchant and in three months became the manager. She worked as a sommelier in various restaurants in St Petersburg. She launched and managed various projects from scratch, such as a chain of wine merchants, a wine bar, a restaurant and a cigar lounge. In 2012 and 2013, she was among the medallists in the tasting competition ”St Petersburg Sommelier, Champions League". Currently, Anna is head sommelier at the Italian restaurant Caffe Italia in St Petersburg, therefore Italian autochthonous grape varieties are her speciality. At the same time, she is
developing her Winecode project, which offers wine consultations for business leaders and individuals, as well as training courses, wine dinners and tastings. Since 2013, she has been a teacher at the Millesime sommelier school in St Petersburg, which has recently become an official WSET APP. In addition, Anna lectures at wine schools in St Petersburg, such as Marex and Wine Masters. In 2018, she successfully graduated from the Austrian Wine Academy in Rust, gaining the DipWSET qualification and the title of Weinakademiker. In 2017 and 2018, she completed her studies at Vinitaly International Academy, having twice confirmed the title of Italian Wine Ambassador. Since 2018, she has been a judge at the annual international wine competition Vinitaly’s 5Star Wines in Verona. In February 2020, Anna took part in all three events of the largest presentation of Italian wines in the USA, the BAROLO & BARBARESCO WORLD OPENING in New York, where, as a member of the international expert jury of the World’s Best Palates, she was involved in assessing the quality of current Barolo and Barbaresco vintages. In her quest for beauty, Anna is an ardent apologist for Riesling.
